Food Metal mixes done!

Tonight, well over two years after I decided to resurrect my Food Metal project (the one I threw together in one month’s time in 2004), I declared the mixes finished! Here is a sampler, an appetizer if you will, until the main course is served! About 30 seconds of each of the 10 tracks that will appear on the finished product: 8 reheated leftovers from the 2004 album, plus 2 brand new recipes.

Terror Toys live footage

I recently had some Terror Toys footage from over 21 years ago digitized. This footage is old enough to drink! Look at all that hair I had! This was from my second show with the band at One Step Beyond, in Santa Clara, California. We were opening for Vain, which was a pretty big deal for me at the time as I was quite a fan, and it was my first time ever opening for a band who’d had a major record deal. So we get to the club to load in, and the first thing I see is Davy Vain asking me where the bathroom is. Another funny thing from that show… you’ll see in the “London Reign” clip that in the early days, we’d have someone come out onstage in a Grim Reaper costume to throw roses at all the girls in the audience. So I had dyed my hair that night, and I didn’t want anyone to see before we hit the stage, but there were no restrooms in the backstage area, you had to go through the club to get to them. So naturally, I donned the Grim Reaper outfit and had our friend Brian guide me through the crowd so I could go pee. But as soon as I left our dressing room, there were all five members of Vain! They probably were thinking “what in the hell?!?”

I actually ran into Davy Vain a few years ago, at a Combichrist show, of all places!

Anyway, enjoy! I hope to get more old live footage digitized and put online at some point.

It’s alive!

My poor old studio computer has been ill for awhile. I’ve had it for 8 years! It’s still running Windows XP! I didn’t want to get a new music PC because I’m gradually switching over to Logic Pro / Mac, but I also have loads of old unfinished music on the other system so I needed to get it going again. Now, at long last, it is!

I won’t give away too much about one project in particular I will work on now that the old system is going again, but let’s just say it’ll leave you HUNGRY for more!

It’s a Conspiracy! A SOUL Conspiracy!

At the urging of my good friend and former bandmate Ben Wiser, I’ve uploaded the first demo recording from my first band Soul Conspiracy, recorded way back in 1990!

I think we’ve all come a long way from those days! Listening to this stuff again brings back lots of old memories. We recorded at the legendary House of Faith in Palo Alto, California, with Bart Thurber, taking advantage of his “hundred dollar punk rock two day special”. We were very young and inexperienced, and ill-prepared for the recording studio. We were sloppy, we didn’t have endings figured out for most of our songs, and we tried to record far too many songs in the time we had. Listening to my own playing, I can easily tell which songs I had lead guitar parts figured out for and which ones I didn’t. I also shouldn’t have used that junky Gibson Explorer guitar I owned in those days, it just wasn’t as good of a guitar as my other one and I think my parts would have sounded a lot better if I hadn’t used it! “But James Hetfield plays an Explorer so it must be better…: Oh well, I’m older and wiser now! There’s certainly a youthful enthusiasm to these tracks that can I can never duplicate, and we had a lot of cool ideas, good riffs, and catchy songs.

Latest video projects

I put together a few new videos the last few weeks. Last week, I made a music video for “I’ll Never Be The Same Again”, from the Now You’re Gone album. It’s done in a behind the scenes in the recording studio format, although of course I actually recorded the song over five years ago!

Previously, I created a slide show video for Terror Toys’ “Found Myself Dead”. It was one of our best songs, and features one of the best guitar solos I’ve ever done.

I figured I should get the old website up and running again…

Hi! has been down for some time, and since I’m doing a lot more with music lately, I figured I’d better revive my web presence. It may be some time before this thing is presentable, but hey, at least it’s better than a blank page! In the meantime, please like me on Facebook to see my regular updates there. I’ve been working on presenting old music and creating new music, as well as commemorating the 5 year anniversary of my album “Now You’re Gone”. More soon!
