I just put together a promo video for the Food Metal release. Check it out!
I’ve just completed my first lyric video for my song “Slipping Away Again”. I’m rather proud of my work if I say so myself!
At long last, Food Metal is live and available for purchase! With some help from Crash and Erie from Dream In Red, I was able to retrieve the finished tracks off my half-dead old studio computer, make some last minute adjustments, and get them mastered. Thanks to them and thank you to my friends who contributed to the original Food Metal recordings way back in 2004!
In addition, I’ve got quite a few solo gigs coming up. Come on out and see me!
I’m appearing on tonight’s episode of Listen Up! Sacramento. The taping happened last week and I can’t wait to see the results. To watch, in the Sacramento area, you can tune in at 11 PM Pacific time tonight on Access Sacramento channel 16 on Comcast/Consolidated Communications and AT&T U-Verse channel 14, or watch the simulcast online. I plan to post the best bits of my performance on YouTube soon. Many thanks to Listen Up! Sacramento for having me perform!
Another upcoming live show, this time in Modesto, California. My first time playing there. Have I even BEEN there? It’ll be part of their Third Thursday Art Walk and I’ll be part of an art show featuring artists Monica Gunderson and Kundalini Chrysalis. I love playing unconventional gigs like this.
Also, I’m considering putting out some new and previously unreleased music soon! I’ve got a couple of new songs I’m excited about, and several old songs that are fully recorded but just never saw the light of day until now.
I’ll be performing Saturday, October 8th in San Jose, California! I’m looking forward to this show for several reasons. First off, it’s an event for my friend Waffle Princess Sarah’s birthday, she’s been a friend and a supporter for a long time. Also this will be sort of a homecoming for me… my first south bay performance since I moved away in 2011, and the closest I will come to playing my old haunt the Cactus Club ever again! Expect to hear some brand new original material at this show as well as old favorites!

The show last Tuesday went great! Thank you so much to Club Revolt and The Press Club for having Dream In Red and James Perry! I am now actively booking more shows so watch out for more soon.
So in addition to working on some new songs, I’m returning to my old work and considering which songs I’d like to perform live again. There are certain songs I just can’t relate to anymore or that I feel are downright weird and inappropriate to play live now (that can happen when the girl you wrote a whole album about is now dead… RIP Katie). But one that I just dusted off tonight was interesting to revisit… Weight Of The World. This was from a National Solo Album Month project I did about ten years ago called Stuck. At the time I was feeling really down about life. I’d developed tendinitis in my wrist and had to stop playing guitar for awhile, I hated my job, I felt like I was going nowhere in terms of my music, my career, my financial situation, my love life… blah blah blah, boo hoo.
So here I am ten years later. And the James Perry that wrote that song had NO idea what being stuck or feeling the weight of the world is! I’ve lived a lot more life since I wrote that song and fallen into much deeper despair at times than where I was at that point in my life… but I also had no idea how FREE I could feel too after I finally learned to take control of my life and go after what I wanted and needed in life instead of just passively letting life happen to me. I’m in a far better place now.
Anyway, here’s the song! In spite of everything I’ve just said about it, I still like the song, and I’m sure I’ll be playing it again soon.
The Human EP by the UK’s Cortex Defect is available as a free download via Bandcamp. I played all the guitars on this, and their singer and I go waaaay back. There will be more music from Cortex Defect (along with me on guitar) soon!
